Article: Philadelphis Inquirer:Jeanne Claypoole Article: Philadelphis Inquirer:Jeanne Claypoole  Jean Claypoole Sets the Mood for Art

Courier Post

"Eclipse," pictured top right, is by Jean Claypoole of Stratford, a Junior at Sterling High School, pictured bottom right. "I've always been into art," she says, "photography, painting, drawing and mixed media---I don't restrict myself to one style."

The goal of her art is to "have more than one level of thought."

She wants to have her work to "set certain moods, create a general feel for the piece, give hidden messages."

Claypoole is interested in art therapy and writing----she is also editor of the the school newspaper, The Silver Scroll.

Article:Philadelphia Inquirer: Roslynn Renee Johnson Article:Philadelphia Inquirer: Roslynn Renee Johnson  Featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer's Your Art section for her portraits, Roslynn Johnson not only demonstrates her talent as an artist, but also outlines her aspirations in the field.

Roslynn Renee' Johnson, 18, of Somerdale, a senior at Sterling High School, has developed her technique as a portrait artist. Shown right are two of her works, a three-dimensional self portrait and a sketched portrait of a minister.

Johnson hopes to attend art school after graduation. Teacher Irene Maskaly said of Johnson's work: "Her portraits not only reflect the likeness of her subjects but capture a sense of presence." Johnson turned her eye for likenesses to herself when creating her 3-D self-portrait in clay.

Besides painting, Johnson is interested "in sewing and creating 3-D things." Fashion design might be in her future. And after business courses at school piqued her interest, she says, she hopes one day to own a store- and maybe sell some of her creations.
